According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 649 people are now hospitalised, 21 more than on Monday, of which 93 are in intensive care units, the same number as the day before.

Of the 14 deaths, two occurred in the North, four in the Centre, four in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, one in the Alentejo, one in Algarve and two in Madeira.

The deaths occurred in the age groups between 50 and 59 years old (one), 60 and 69 years old (two), between 70 and 79 years old (seven) and among the elderly over 80 years old (four), indicates the DGS.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,968), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (3,933) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,673).

Among the new infections, the age group from 40 to 49 years old stands out (over 448 cases), followed by 50 to 59 years old (379), from 30 to 39 years old (348), from 20 to 29 years old (318), from 0 to 9 years old (286), 60 to 69 years old (270), 10 to 19 years old (226), 70 to 79 years old (201) and over 80 years old (84).

Among the 18,353 fatalities recorded since the start of the pandemic are 9,609 men and 8,744 women.

According to the DGS bulletin, in the last 24 hours, the greatest number of infections occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, with 831 notifications, accounting for this geographical area, since the beginning of the pandemic crisis, 433,633 cases and 7,796 deaths.

In the North region, there were over 780 cases, totalling 425,524 and 5,631 deaths.

In the Central region, there were 568 new cases, for a total of 154,862 infections and 3,233 deaths.

The Algarve reported 183 cases, accumulating 46,910 infections and 500 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 93 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 41,578 infections and 1,059 deaths.

According to the DGS, the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded, in the last 24 hours, 86 new cases, totalling 13,935 infections and 86 deaths.

The Azores registered 16 new cases, totalling 9,876 infections and 48 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, there were 11 more active cases, totalling 45,770, and 2,535 more recovered, which increases the national total to 1,062,195 people.

Compared to Monday, health authorities have over 2,428 contacts under surveillance, now totaling 47,358.
