The country has not registered such a high number of deaths by Covid-19 since March 9, this year, when there were 30 deaths.

The daily epidemiological bulletin of the DGS counts today 943 people hospitalised, nine less than on Thursday, of which 147 are in intensive care units, 11 fewer in the last 24 hours.

According to data from the health authority, there were three deaths in the age group between 50 and 59 years, with the remaining deaths in the age groups of 60 to 69 (three), from 70 to 79 (six) and of the elderly with over 80 years (12).

Of the 24 deaths, eight occurred in the North, another eight in the Centre, five in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, two in the Alentejo and one in the Algarve.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo is the region with the most new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours (1,648), followed by the North (1,477), the Centre (770), the Algarve (314), Madeira (241), the Alentejo (147) and the Azores (47).

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (12,182), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (4,046) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,714).

The largest number of new cases diagnosed is in the age group between 20 and 29 years old (847), followed by 40 to 49 years old (803), from 30 to 39 years old (739), from 50 to 59 years old (584), from zero to 09 years old (537), from 10 to 19 years old (469), from 60 to 69 years old (436), from 70 to 79 years old (156) and from the elderly over 80 years old (73).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo has registered 462,828 cases and 7,906 deaths.

In the North region there were 452,769 infections and 5,725 deaths and the Centre region now has a cumulative total of 174,903 infections and 3,315 deaths.

The Algarve has a total of 53,704 infections and 554 deaths and the Alentejo has 44,253 cases and 1,077 deaths due to Covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded, in the last 24 hours, according to the DGS, 241 new cases, totalling 16,736 infections and 115 deaths, and the Azores registered 47 new infections, totalling 10,581 and 49 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,741 people have died and 1,215,774 cases of infection have been recorded, according to data from the DGS.
