According to the daily epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), 1,396 people are hospitalised today, 18 more than on Saturday, while in intensive care units there are 102 people, plus one, although not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.
The number of active cases rose today to 452,758, 6,457 more than on Saturday, and in the last 24 hours 612 people were reported to have recovered, for a total of 2,784,612 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The number of patients in intensive care recorded a slight increase in the last 24 hours compared to Saturday (one more), now standing at 102, while admissions to the ward maintain values similar to those recorded at the beginning of January.
In the last 24 hours, 266,973 contacts were no longer under surveillance, with 159,499 people remaining in these conditions, and the number of new cases has been decreasing, with today's values (7,107) being the lowest since December 26 (3,732) .
Of the 38 deaths in the last 24 hours, 10 took place in the Centre region, nine in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley regions, nine in the North region, four in the Alentejo, two in the Algarve, two in the Azores and two in Madeira.
Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 2,531 infections, followed by the North, with 1,535 more, the Centre (1,478), the Algarve (424), the Azores (408), the Alentejo (393) and Madeira (338).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,153,825 cases and 8,727 deaths.
In the North region, there were 1,228,390 infections and 6,435 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 490,300 infections and 3,734 deaths.
The Algarve has a total of 133,652 infections and 689 deaths and Alentejo has 117,011 cases and 1,177 deaths from covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has had 78,018 infections and 187 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 57,213 cases and 90 deaths.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.
Since March 2020, 11,068 men and 9,971 women have died from Covid-19.
