António Guterres was speaking at the closing session of the Youth and Innovation Forum of the UN Ocean Conference 2022 (UNOC - United Nations Ocean Conference).
“I want to apologize, on behalf of my generation, to your generation, regarding the state of the ocean, the state of biodiversity and the state of climate change”, said the Secretary-General of the United Nations, speaking to an audience of young people.
The official admitted that his generation was politically responsible for the degradation of the conditions of the oceans, for having been slow, or even “unwilling to recognise that conditions were deteriorating at sea”.
“Even today, we are moving slowly towards reversing the trend and rehabilitating the oceans, saving biodiversity and stopping climate change,” he added.
Yeah, right. Let's also apologise for the solar flares, and meteorites hitting earth, and don't forget the dinosaurs....oh yeah, we must have been responsible for the extinction of dinosaurs. Woke UN.

He is right it is the older generation that have been too slow taking action. "Slowly" is better than nothing, I suppose, but the health of the oceans should be top priority. Captain Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd has said "If the ocean dies, we die." I have quoted him in my book entitled Saving Mother Ocean.

It's not the people who are responsible. It's big corporations who pollute without regard for the environment, not us as individuals. Which giant corporation has ever asked us the people if we agree with their polluting and damaging of the environment. Global warming is nonsense and not caused by humans. But pollution from giant corporations is very real. Not to mention geoengineering, which seems to be the reason we have no water here.
