The “Douro All Around” application was presented by the Douro Intermunicipal Community (CIM Douro), which includes the 19 municipalities in the region.

“It is a great award for the region, a well-deserved award that will also help us with the work of the Intermunicipal Community (of the Douro)”, the mayor told Lusa.

As a European City of Wine 2023, the Douro Heritage of Humanity will be, according to the promoters of the candidacy, “a European reference in wine, vineyards, culture and in the harmonious celebration of nature and secular work carried out by generations of Douro people”. The mayor explained to Lusa that “there will now be a period of preparation, of project consolidation, and in 2023 it will be the full year of the candidacy”.

“Above all, there will be a diversified set of activities that will now be consolidated into more effective projects”, he said.
