According to a report by Correio da Manhã the group of young
men broke beds, ripped locks off doors, urinated on curtains and paraded naked
in front of other guests.
José Cerqueira, who is in charge of the Apartamentos Regina
complex, told Correio da Manhã that the total cost of all the damage amounts to
around €4,000.
I hope they are made to pay for all the damage they’ve done, they don’t realize that when you are a guest in another country you represent the country that you are from.

They have destroyed albuferia once a lovely place to stay as I did for years. They are a obnoxious race. hopefully the way their government is handling Brexit we will see less of them in the future.

Further “evidence” of how Europeans are so much better guests/tourists/citizens than the rest…André Ventura, why not bother them instead??? Hypocrisy, racism.

All countries have their 'low life' but they seem more prevalent amongst the British and sadly, not a new phenomenon. I remember when living in Dubai in the seventies the only visiting navy banned from shore leave was British!

Another bunch of not rights who have been drinking on an empty head -cocaine is a big factor these days ,groups of men are to be taken with caution and a good bond of security, apologies from the Uk for these idiots ,usually poor parenting!

Fidelma Frewen. The Brits are loudly obnoxious. The rest are slyly.
By Steve. from Algarve on 27 Jul 2022, 10:46
This is the sort of thing that makes me embarrassed to admit that I am British. But lets not forget that there are bad people here too. Our friend had his home totally trashed and articles stolen by Portuguese youths recently. The Police caught them with the goods.
By Martin from Lisbon on 27 Jul 2022, 10:55
This is disgusting, despicable behavior, they should be ashamed of themselves. I hope they are banned permanently from visiting Portugal.
By Lisa from Other on 27 Jul 2022, 11:32
As a long term British lusophile, I wish the Portuguese police would arrest and prosecute my fellow countrymen who abuse Portuguese hospitality. I am tired to death of being made ashamed by such hooligans. Many Portuguese may well feel that Brexit will turn out to have been good for them! For those of us who wished to remain in the EU it is proving the disaster we always expected it would be.

These groups are getting Albufeira a bad name, stag parties in particular, make them pay in advance for damages. Hoteliers beware.
By John Whelan from UK on 27 Jul 2022, 11:40
to condemn all British by the actions of a few doesn't help the many good British people living in Europe who did not vote for Brexit yet now suffer these sort of generalised racist comments
By Pele Torado from Alentejo on 27 Jul 2022, 11:44
I am so sorry that these vandals behaved in such a disgusting way. I hope the local authorities throw the book at them perhaps requesting the consulate remove their passports. As soon as appropriate they should be named so their families know.

When it comes to British. Or for that matter American or Russian tourists / ex-pats, there usually is:
No integration with their new society - they refuse to learn portuguese, build high walls around their properties etc
Insist on others knowing their language
Drive up prices
Are usually loud, obnoxious and drive up drug use
Are rude
Will happily tell you, in English what this country needs to improve on, even though they left their country to live here
Take over neighborhoods
Really, does portugal need their dollars this badly?

I’m sorry for all the damage our race have caused ,I’m British and embarrassed to read this news as I’ve lived here in Portugal for over 10 years and I’ve never known such behaviour around this area and we would never do this to these people we have been made welcome ,every where we have been trust the English to do this as a lot of British people here have more respect in this country we live in and have been very happy here,-lease don’t tar us with the same brush as these people as we have more respect for the Portuguese people .K.jefcoate

As is always the case, a few people will spoil things for the majority of people who are honest and treat others and their property with respect. It is unfortunate that the rest of us end up paying for this with higher prices or fewer options.
By Jim McDonald from Algarve on 27 Jul 2022, 15:39
Are the English a RACE? I thought they were a nation, sloppy thinking!

For the vile Irish woman above to blame all Brits is wrongful. (When I’ve travelled, the Irish and the Scots , in my opinion do more drunken criminal damage than the English )
By simon from Algarve on 27 Jul 2022, 19:07
As a Brit I am ashamed of the behaviour of these thugs. Perhaps a 10 year ban on their re- entry to Portugal might allow time for them to grow up. I must however take issue with Fidelma Frewen whose comments are, at best, racist. Neither these thugs nor the British government ( her reference to Brexit) are truly representative of my “race” as she puts it. It might be helpful, in the event of further opinions she might wish to air, if she were to engage her brain before using the keyboard.
By Chris Bird from Algarve on 27 Jul 2022, 19:22
Put them in jail for at least 24 until they can see a judge, then fine the hell out of them and don't let them back in the country!
By Wesley from USA on 28 Jul 2022, 05:26
Reading the comments on here shows just how stupid some are. BREXIT is not about xenophobia, it was about sovereignty. I support Brexit, but live in central Portugal (the real Portugal, not a plastic community fabricated for the drop in brigade) Brexit has made some aspects of life more difficult, but seeing as I do not venture to the UK often, it really is no inconvenience at all. The biggest embarrassment is the constant whingeing from remainers who complain incessantly about their cars, driving licences and 90 day cut off periods. You have had almost 6 years to sort this out, but no, blindly stumble on thinking if you adopt the backside up head in the sand approach, things will change. That hubris will do nothing but hinder your progress in Portugal. As for the racist commentators, go swivel!

I am a Brazilian, married to an English man and with an English son. I take exception to the comment of Fidelma Frewen. stating that the English is an 'obnoxious race'. It shows not only her ignorance and prejudice. Blame is something very difficult to apportion. I am sure that proprietor/s did not follow the rules to check who they were renting their apartments to. It's obvious that a group of single men will cause more damage than a family of 4 or an older couple!! This was a risk the landlord took (for a good profit) and it went wrong. Why wasn't the police called? They should have been kept in prison until the damages were paid for. Maybe no one checked the flats before they left?
As for this very rude lady, Fidelma Frewen, let me tell you, Fidelma, that once I had a very unpleasant episode with a couple of Portuguese youths in Lisbon but that did not made hate the Portuguese people!!
Some people need excuses for their own petty feelings. That's why there's so much hate in the world today.
For me, this is a very good lesson to the landlords, who by the way, could have either be British or Portuguese.

This adolescent behaviour by young "men" is becoming more prevalent. In the 1950s/ 1960s adolescents had to grow up in a hurry, they had no choice. Sadly, adolescent behaviour seem to affect some men into their 30s or 40s. Pathetic!
By Roger Penn from UK on 29 Jul 2022, 16:43
This is one of the reasons I will never live in the UK again. I detest this mindless, thug culture. However, whilst I agree that generally the British are pathetic at learning the language, some of us do learn Portuguese and make every effort to integrate.
By Robin Matthew Watson from Madeira on 30 Jul 2022, 21:15
I am afraid to say it makes you embarrassed to admit you are from Britain. I live in a small village near caldas da rainha and even here people have a negative opinion of the British because of drinking and behaviour
By Chris from Other on 08 Aug 2022, 16:05
Can i just say that the Brits that moved here. They did it to try to get away from these people too. The moral of the story is don't judge every individual with the same assumptions please. A lot of us are pro EU life style and don't do these things. To be honest i don't know why anyone would do this and i am technically a Brit. I am pro EU and i believe in one world unity. So please don't judge someone like me by what these animals are doing. How do people with enough money to go on expensive holidays get this money? If they act like animals then i am sure they can't have well educated jobs, right? Please don't think we are all the same.
