In an interview with TVI/CNN Portugal, the leader of the Catholic Church did not deny the sexual abuse that occurs within the institution, saying that those situations should not be hidden. Furthermore, he said that these crimes should be reported.
The Pope stressed that the sexual abuse of children destroys lives and denied that it is related to celibacy in the Church. Based on the idea that even in families where there is no celibacy, there are children who are victims of sexual abuse.
Wes said it well.

He wants to tell his own men that it is diabolical. They need punishing not just reporting.
Allow priests to marry = end of boys being raped. That is what it is!

Susan Knox from Porto: I can only see 1 comment (yours) in the comments section; wondering what Wes said.
About article: while it is true that child abuse doesn´t happen only in contexts where celibacy is mandatory, it tends to foster it more easily (I´m thinking of single sex boarding schools. Andy White wrote about this on his blog a long while back). And sexual abuse is rampant in places where there´s rigid hierarchy- Army, Police forces; but also happens to people while doing their normal jobs. That said, Pope Francis should study the effects of depriving people of acquiring benign socialization skills. In civilian settings, people have to abide by common rules and either negotiate or simply establish firm boundaries to communicate what behaviours are inappropriate. Pope Francis clearly lacks clarity and know how in these domains. No one published it in Portuguese, but at 1rst Pope Francis defended the abusers-that shows that the institution hierarchy and indoctrination doesn´t give victims the tools to defend themselves. Christianity thrives on “Mystery” and Obscurantism,; that doesn´t fly with the times we´re living in and neither does the creed “The meek shall inherit the Earth”. People who read in English know exactly whom you are, Pope Francis. You´re not even a worthy representation of a decent human being, let alone a representative of God.
