Speaking to Lusa on 9 September, Diogo Marques, responsible for organising the event, highlighted the presence of The Gipsy Kings, The Stranglers, Fafá de Belém, Pedro Abrunhosa, Irma and Sons do Douro at the festival. According to Diogo Marques, "a unique sensorial experience is to be expected for all wine and good music lovers who will gather on the banks of the Douro River".
Organised in partnership with the Lamego City Hall, Turismo do Porto e Norte and the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (IVDP), the festival also aims at attracting foreigners to "come and discover the products in our territory, enriching this experience will be the harvests that are taking place at this time".
The festival is being promoted in several countries, namely Germany, England and France, among others.
With a programme designed for "everyone and audiences of all ages, the space has several areas of interest, brand activations and two main stages, where national and international artists will perform along with Douro region wine producers, chefs and specialists.”
The first stage is dedicated to music, with names such as Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo, Fafá de Belém, Banda Filme Variações, Sons do Douro who are set to perform on the 17 September, Pedro Abrunhosa, The Stranglers, Tiago Bettencourt and Irma will all perform on the 18 September.
Focusing on gastronomy and entertainment, the second stage will host the 'Cook Stage', moderated by Chef Miguel Castro e Silva, with 'Live Cooking' shows, tastings, music and talks.
JJ Vintém, António Loureiro, Marlene Vieira, Catarina Nascimento, Tiago Bonito, José Guedes, Dirk Niepoort, Fernando Alvim and Miguel Gameiro are some of the names that will take the stage during the weekend of the 17th and 18th.
Besides the main stages' programme, Douro & Porto Wine Festival offers the public other experiences and activities.
This is the case of the Premium Area, Food trucks and Wine Houses: small wooden houses distributed in an organised manner throughout the space, where it is possible to taste, try and buy wines from the most varied estates of the Douro Demarcated Region.
Created for those who seek a "more premium and sophisticated" experience, the festival presents the Privilege Zone, with exclusive bars, an exclusive food area and access to the stage, for example.
The festival takes place at the Commercial Port of Cambres, Lamego, and tickets cost between 30 and 100 euros.
The festival is over six hectares, the space has the capacity for around 20,000 people per day, as well as more than 100 wine producers from the Douro region and more than 10 Chefs and specialists.
Additionally, parking will be available on site, also allowing visitors from neighbouring municipalities to use free transfers. There is also the possibility for people travelling by train to take a boat to the festival area.
