The lunchtime open-air concert is already part of the festival tradition. On Friday, the trio 'Os Novos Flamengos' will bring to Pico Dutch musicians, now living in the Azores. On Saturday, mariense Isabel Mesquita makes her debut at the festival, accompanied by Carlos Sousa.

Adriaan van Olphen on Viola da Terra, and guitarists Joana van Olphen and Pieter Adriaans, are ´Os Novos Flamengos´, based on the island of São Jorge. Featuring music by Francisco Lacerda, found in the Lacerda Archive in Angra do Heroísmo, now with arrangements by Pieter Adriaans for viola and guitar, the trio also add traditional Azorean music and original compositions to their repertoire.

Isabel Mesquita was born on the island of Santa Maria and feels like a citizen of the world. She composed 10 songs that are part of her first album, "Ilhéu", with poems of her own, but also of Natália Correia, Florbela Espanca, Paulo Ramalho and Daniel Gonçalves. "Ilhéu" is the debut album of the singer Isabel Mesquita, a work that brings together originals with influences of jazz, bossa nova and Cape Verdean music, but also fado and tango.

Museu do Pico is a partner of MiratecArts since its foundation, ten years ago, promoting activities in the island. The Cordas Festival has financial support from the RJAAC programme of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs.

Festival Cordas runs until the 25 September, ending each evening with a concert at the Madalena Auditorium, with the logistical support of the Madalena City Council. For more information visit FestivalCordas.com and search MiratecArts, the organiser on social media.
