According to data
released by Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), while electricity consumption
slowed by 0.3% in September – something that “has not happened since January of
this year” – the productivity indices associated with renewable energies “were
all favourable” when compared to the historical average equal to 1. According to
the data, the production of hydroelectric energy was the one that increased the
most, reaching 1.24 last month. The production of wind energy settled at 1.23
and solar production at 1.06.
With regard to
photovoltaic production, REN notes that it “maintains very significant growth,
close to 50%” related to the increase in installed power, with peaks above
1,300 megawatts (MW).
All in all, renewable
production was responsible for supplying 44% of consumption in Portugal, while
non-renewable production represented 35% of the total. The remaining 21%
corresponded to imported energy, explains REN.
