The Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts
that this Wednesday will be the first of five consecutive days of rain, with
the president of the institution welcoming the return of precipitation,
considering it "a very significant contribution" to combat drought in
the country.
In an interview with CNN, Miguel Miranda explained that
"we are going to have five consecutive days of precipitation, it will be
very important in the Tagus basin and in the Minho basin".
"Considering the long drought cycle we've been going
through in recent years, this is fantastic news," he said.
Miguel Miranda stressed that it is essential to take
advantage of these five days of rain, so that the hydrographic basins retain
"a significant part of all this water".
Indian summer
However, Miguel Miranda put a brake on rain expectations for
the rest of the month, referring to the IPMA forecast, and saying that
"after this week of precipitation and lower temperatures, we will return
to what people call an “Indian summer”.
"We're not expecting to have either a prolonged cooling
or a big continuation of this period of precipitation. But if we had more
precipitation, it would be welcome," he reiterated.
