The commander of the National Emergency and Civil Protection
Authority (ANEPC) said, at around 7:15am, that in that period the districts of
Braga, Porto and Aveiro were the most affected.
"Between 6:00pm yesterday [Tuesday] and 7:00 am today,
83 occurrences were recorded. 34 were tree falls, 22 floods, 14 road cleanings,
10 falls of structures and three of mass movements", he said, adding that
there were no serious incidents.
Red weather warning
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere
(IPMA) has placed the districts of Porto and Braga under red warning until 9:00am
today due to the forecast of heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts
of wind.
The red warning, the most serious of a scale of three, is
issued whenever there is an extremely hazardous weather situation.
The IPMA also placed the districts of Viseu, Vila Real,
Aveiro, Coimbra and Viana do Castelo under orange warning due to rain until
9:00am today, then yellow until 9:00pm.
The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Faro, Vila
Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo
Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga will be under a yellow warning
until 21:00 today due to heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of
wind.
The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria,
Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under a yellow warning because of the wind,
until 12:00pm today, and then between 6:00am and 3:00pm on Thursday.
