The situation was
reported to the Government and to parliamentary groups. “There are unscrupulous
people, with pensions of €2,000 and more, who boast that they received €60”,
says the president of the parish council of the municipality of Pombal, adding
that many of these emigrants have luxurious homes with a swimming pool, but as
they do not declare IRS, are exempt from paying IMI.
To the media, Social Security says that “the list of beneficiaries of the social electricity tariff
is drawn up by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology, based on data
from final customers received from sector agents, after checking the
eligibility conditions with the Ministry of Health, Tributary and Customs
Authority”, not explaining, however, whether measures were taken to prevent
high-income migrants from receiving this support.
Yesterday I found out that 1 of my (cheapest) home cleaning products, is being charged at 23% tax!!! I had noticed all the increases in nearly EVERYTHING, but to think this gvrt has the nerve to tax “Ultra Pro, Lava Tudo, Lavanda” 2liters as a luxury…Demented. So remember people, when you come to Portugal even the most basic homecare-that is, if you don´t want to resort to pigsty lifestyle in your own home/space/shack/shack quality home - it costs whatever+ TWENTY THREE PER CENT TAX. Wow, how fancy we are. Even cleaning your own space is an activity being punished by taxes. And I guess Deco doesn´t check these items or write about them, probably because they pay s.o. to clean their homes and are oblivious to this (? Why no mention?). This certainly explains why their energy saving tips are only of use or feasible for people who were already better off to begin with. MYTH BUSTED.

@Guida, once again you demonstrate your ignorance of fundamentals. VAT is not a tax on luxuries, but a tax on value added. This will be lost on you, as no doubt you'll fail to know what 'value added' is, and need instruction on this.

Dear guida, you make it simple for yourself! If you move to, for example, Denmark there is 25% VAT on everything and special taxes on top for lots if items. Car tax 180% and then the 25%. There is also many possibilities to make your own cleaning "liquids" and that is very cheap to do. DIY!!
