After not having been held for the last two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual 3-day conference of the Federation of European Self-Storage Associations (FEDESSA) came to Portugal for the first time and had around 700 people from all over Europe attending it (800 in London in 2019). This is the biggest event of its kind in Europe, and outside the US, and includes several presentations, panel sessions, and product demonstrations, as well as a trade show that organisers say was the largest ever in Europe.
The conference offers exhibitors a unique opportunity to market themselves and their products to operators, self-storage owners, and even investors coming in from everywhere in Europe .
This 22nd edition was very focused on digital interface (web, social
media, etc) and the challenges and opportunities it brings the sector,
sustainability and environment, and with lots of networking and interaction
between delegates and participants to promote business and the sector.
On the first day of the event, Securum Self Storage was delighted to welcome into their facility over 200 people (participants, delegates, etc) for an exclusive tour of what is considered one of the most advanced self-storage facilities in Portugal.
During this tour, participants were able to talk to Securum’s owners, ask questions and learn more about their space, but mostly see and experience first-hand the security and climate control technology it features, as well as their high-tech and award-winning remote-access digital locks – the Nokē™ Smart Entry by Janus International – that combined allow them to offer a new level of flexibility and accessibility not yet seen or available in the region.
Opening in 2021 by the hands
of Swedish entrepreneurs Maria and Ulf Christiansson, Securum Self Storage
represents a massive investment and is a step further of what can be found in
Portugal, that is still considered an unmature market in self-storage. However,
FEDESSA’s decision to bring their annual conference here for the first time is
a clear sign that the landscape is changing and that Portugal has the potential
to grow, and to become a major player in this sector in Europe, especially
given its (increasing) notability and continuous growth in terms of tourism.
