The strike was called by seven union organisations,
including the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) and the National
Federation of Education (FNE), which demand the valorisation of the teaching
career, the fight against precariousness, and the need to promote the
rejuvenation of the sector.
The strike coincides with the visit of the Minister of
Education, João Costa, to parliament to be heard within the scope of the
discussion in the specialty of the OE2023, which provides for €6.9 billion for
basic and secondary education and school administration.
For union structures that represent teachers, this amount
is, however, insufficient and represents what they consider the sector's underfunding.
On the other hand, they also consider that the OE2023 leaves several problems
unanswered.
In addition to the strike, Fenprof called for a meeting for
the same day in front of the Assembly of the Republic from 15:00, one hour
before the start of João Costa's hearing.
FNE will promote initiatives with union leaders in several
schools in the country, during the morning.
I was wondering if someone could assist me. 3 kids in a government school only speak English they are not being assisted but are required to just magically understand the Portuguese in all subjects and are not allowed to use a translation book to help them understand what they are doing, they are not being offered any help with the language, neither getting assistance. They are to be expected to just understand what the lessons are in a language they do not understand. How can they learn anything and pass through school. My question is are these foreign children allowed to use translations books or devices?

Buy them those books with pics of everything combined with the correct naming of objects depicted in pics in Portuguese. If you can, buy comics that your kids are familiar with in your language, in Portuguese. It should be fun at times, because otherwise what motivation (not the local school described; for sure) will your kids have to go through such tremendous effort? My own English Rattrapage didn´t take all year, not even half a year-but you can see how come, can´t you M.? Your kids aren´t dumb, they´re just surrounded by unreasonable, unconscious morons. I hope this description will bring some awareness to the stupid people governing the school your kids go to. Sorry, M.
