"Two administrative proceedings were initiated for
serious violation of consumer rights and the products on display were seized,
considering the impossibility of the consumer making an informed choice of the
product they were purchasing", according to a statement from ASAE.
The value of the seizure is estimated at 180,000 euros and
the "suspension of activity of the two establishments" was determined
"until legality is restored".
Questioned by Lusa, an official ASAE source said that the
operation took place in Varziela, in the municipality of Vila do Conde.
The authority said today that it "carried out a
supervisory action aimed at guaranteeing consumer information rights" in a
municipality in Greater Porto.
According to ASAE, two supermarkets "retailed food
products without guaranteeing the consumer's rights to information", since
"in a universe of more than 1,500 product references in each
establishment, the overwhelming majority of them did not have any labelling in
Portuguese".
If you can't make a proper decision on a product that you're buying, just don't buy it.
Why always the urge from the government to interfere?

If the retail business agreed to follow Portuguese laws in order to receive a license to operate here, it has no excuse. Not everyone has the option to travel from store to store seeking products that have clear markings to show that they don't contain ingredients that cause allergies or are unhealthy

The Portuguese should speak English. (Just joking).
