In a statement, ASAE states that the foodstuffs in question are “corrupted, abnormal”.

Abnormal foodstuffs are considered corrupt when they have decomposed or putrefy, when they contain harmful substances or germs, or when they are “in some way repugnant”.

In the operation, 410 kilos of beef and pork meat were seized, worth around 2,500 euros.

The action was supported by the veterinarian from Barcelos City Council.

When contacted by Lusa, ASAE and the veterinarian declined to reveal in which parish the butcher's shop in question is located, with the organisation only saying that it is “on the outskirts of Barcelos”.
