The Ministry of Health "continues to postpone the
negotiation of measures that counteract the salary devaluation of doctors and
the sharp degradation of their working conditions", states FNAM.
Even after a new negotiating meeting between the Government
and the National Federation of Doctors (FNAM), the decision remains: there will
be a strike on the 8th and 9th of March. The Federation calls for the
involvement of the entire population, as the “fight” aims to “improve the
working conditions of doctors and save the National Health Service”, reads a
statement.
At the meeting that took place this Wednesday, “only the
payment of overtime in emergency services was discussed”, reads the document
sent by FNAM.
The Federation, which notes the new absence of the Minister
of Health, Manuel Pizarro, considers that the ministry in question “continues
to postpone the negotiation of measures that counteract the salary devaluation
of doctors and the sharp degradation of their working conditions”.
The FNAM accuses the Government of Costa of promoting a
“regime in which doctors are disrespected and treated like an automaton”,
making a point of noting that, in the last year, professionals worked eight
million hours of overtime. Thus, he once again called for the participation of
all doctors in the March strike, warning that this “is a fight for the entire
population, in defence of an accessible and quality SNS”.
