Meanwhile, the Public Administration Workers Union (Sintap) and the National Union of Movement and Related Railway Workers (Sinafe) announced a strike at Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) for the 28 February and 2 March, which is expected to cause further problems for travellers.

IP workers will go on strike "for the provision of any and all work" on February 28 and March 2 "during their entire working period", which could have an impact on the normal functioning of the rail network.

CP guarantees that "customers who already have purchased tickets to travel on Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Internacional, InterRegional and Regional trains will be allowed a refund, for the total amount of the ticket purchased, or its free revalidation for another train of the same category and in the same class".
