"In the framework of 2022, the indicators that we have so far show that we maintain levels of general crime equivalent to those of 2019, naturally they increase in relation to 2020 and 2021, but they were pandemic years and most of the time we were in lockdown" , said José Luís Carneiro in parliament.
In the parliamentary committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, the minister advanced that compared to 2019, last year there was a reduction in violent and serious crime, "albeit small", and general crime remains stable.
Despite this reduction in violent and serious crime, the government official noted that "the intensity of violence" has increased, with the use of firearms and knives.
