With the support of the municipality, the Grupo Popular das Portelas and the Associação dos Amigos de Almádena will bring to Lagos “an unprecedented event in the Barlavento Algarvio, within the scope of the Programa Nacional de Ciclismo para Todos, of the Federação Portuguesa de Ciclismo.”
The race will be open to federated and non-federated athletes, with a limit of 250 participants, aged 18 or over, on the date of the race. Athletes can register in pairs or individually, which will be divided into “open, masters and grand master classes.”
The tests will be carried out using GPS with a total route of 161.70 kilometres, according to the organisation. The test is divided into three stages, one per day. The first stage, “the Prologue”, starts and ends at Cais da Solaria, “not being mandatory participation”, the athletes will make the route through the historic centre of Lagos, in a journey that will be 4.2 kilometres long.
On the second day, the race starts and ends at the Municipal Stadium of Lagos, with a journey that takes place “through various parishes in the municipality”, in more inland areas, which will reach places such as Mata de Barão de S. João, reaching places like Monchique, Aljezur and Vila do Bispo, on what is the longest route of the race, which totals 83 kilometres, along trails that will pass through rural areas.
The last stage also starts and ends at the Estádio Municipal de Lagos, however, the 74.5-kilometre route will be done “along the parish of Vila da Luz, next to the sea and the cliffs.” Beyond the sea, athletes will be able to follow a path that passes through Aldeia da Pedralva, followed by the entrance into the municipality of Lagos.
The event is being publicised throughout the Iberian Peninsula, to attract athletes of the sport to the municipality of Lagos, for a competition that has a partnership with various accommodation establishments in the municipality. Registration costs 60 euros per athlete and can be completed until the end of March at https://registerandgo.net/?evento=840.
