The contract for the installation of a total of 32 cameras, of four different types, was awarded last March, representing an investment of more than 550 thousand euros, informed the Council of Faro in a statement.
The works foresee the expansion of the fiber optic network and the preparation of the support infrastructures for the installation of the system in “specific locations”, namely in the shopping area, on the main road axes and downtown.
According to the municipality, video surveillance will make it possible to monitor public and private property and “prevent crimes in places where there is a reasonable risk of their occurrence”.
“At the same time, it will allow the prevention and repression of road violations”, reads the note.
The system is capable of capturing and recording audio “whenever there is a situation of concrete danger to the safety of people and property”.
The cameras will be operated by the Public Security Police (PSP), working uninterruptedly 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
Faro is a very safe town, I don't understand the purpose of those cameras?
