As one of Europe’s oldest cities, Lisbon has been inhabited and profoundly shaped by different communities and cultures. The Museum of Lisbon reveals how Lisbon has always been a diverse and plural city with a programme of four walking tours.

From May to October, four themed walking tours will help discover how Lisbon was built and experienced over different periods of the city’s history; the Roman, the Islamic, the medieval and the 18th century, after the 1755 earthquake.

According to the museum: “These walking tours are conducted in English and aim to provide an overview of how the city was transformed over each period. On each tour, the Museum’s cultural mediators will guide the participants through iconic places, and monuments such as the Se Cathedral, Martim Moniz, the labyrinthine streets of Alfama and Mouraria, São Cristovão’s Church or Terreiro do Paço”.

The Museum of Lisbon comprises five locations dedicated to discovering the city and its stories: Pimenta Palace, Roman Theatre, Saint Anthony Museum, West Tower and Casa dos Bicos. Whereas each of the five locations has its resources and specific goals, they all share the same identity and mission of unveiling Lisbon’s cultural, social, economic, and territorial identity, reflecting its history and the lives of the people who have shaped it.

Tickets for the tours cost €10 and are available from Blueticket.pt.
