According to a report by Lusa, the strike will cover more than 150 workers and has been called due to the lack of adjustment in the salaries for the past 13 years.
Employees are demanding a salary increase above current inflation, which stood at 6.9% in April, according to data from the Bank of Portugal.
“No increase was given by the British Council management (…) and the situation has become unbearable”, a source told Lusa, adding that minimum services will be respected.
The British Council has teaching establishments in Coimbra, Porto, Lisbon, Oeiras and Cascais and is classed as an international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
Employees state that, since 2009, they have only received a 1% salary increase, which is insufficient to cope with the rise in the cost of living in Portugal.
If the claims are not met, British Council workers have already planned a new strike for the 29th and 30th of September.
These people have been in Portugal so long they picked up the habits of the locals LOL

Regardless of where you’re from, a 1% salary increase in 14 years is unacceptable.
