From Thursday, the weather will change to hot and dry weather.

The summer solstice begins at 3:58 pm today (Lisbon time), ending on September 23, with the entry of autumn.

IPMA forecasts for this first day of summer, are periods of very cloudy skies, gradually becoming slightly cloudy from the morning onwards.

The forecast also points to showers until the end of the morning, which may persist inland until the end of the afternoon but are unlikely in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve, and the possibility of a thunderstorm inland during the afternoon.

Minimum temperatures on the mainland will fluctuate between 11 degrees Celsius (in Guarda and Viseu) and 14 (in Aveiro and Faro) and the maximum between 19 (in Guarda) and 28 degrees (in Beja).


Heatwave

From Thursday, forecasts point to hot and dry weather.

A general rise in temperature is expected, especially the maximums, with values above 30 degrees expected in most of the country, with the exception of some places on the western coastal strip, and values between 35 and 40 degrees inland, especially in the South region where it is expected to go above 40 degrees.

The minimum temperature will also increase, with tropical nights forecast (minimums above 20 degrees) in several places in the centre and south, with emphasis on the Sotavento Algarvio (Eastern Algarve) region where the minimums may even be close to 25 degrees.
