Prices at petrol stations near hypermarkets, which have gained many fans with the fuel hike, are also following market trends. "Next week's trend will be for a rise of €0.0560 in petrol 95 and €0.0558 in diesel."

Data from the Directorate General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) show that the average price of a liter of petrol in Portugal currently costs €1.723 while diesel is worth €1.539. However, prices can vary at filling stations, as the price set on the network also takes into account the level of competition, supply and demand in each market and the level of fixed costs of each station.

Since the beginning of the year, the price of diesel has fallen 16 times and risen on 13 occasions. In the case of gasoline, the scenario is reversed: it has risen 16 times and fallen 13 times, DGEG said. In this period, the price of diesel has fallen by 9.5 cents per liter while the price of petrol 95 has risen by 5.3 cents.

In other words, filling up a 60-liter tank of diesel costs €5.7 less than it did 28 weeks ago. Filling up a tank of gasoline is €3.18 more expensive. Compared to the previous week, filling up the tank would cost €3.6 more in both cases.
