The strike was called by the National Union of Local and Regional Administration Workers, Public Companies, Concessionaires and Similar (STAL), for the period between Friday and Monday.
The strike will cover workers at EMARP, a municipal company that manages the collection, treatment and disposal of urban waste and urban hygiene in Portimão, in the district of Faro, whose City Council owns 100% of the share capital.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, STAL's regional manager for the Algarve, Bruno Luz, explained that "the strike resulted from the lack of availability expressed by the company to negotiate the list of demands presented by the workers".
According to the union leader, there is "deep dissatisfaction" among workers with the work situation, given that "they have seen their purchasing power deteriorate" in recent years and more sharply in the last year.
