According to the IPMA, the red warning will remain in effect until 11:00 pm today, then changing to yellow, and will remain until at least 00:00 am on Saturday.
The Algarve will be under an orange weather warning until at least the end of the week.
The IPMA has also put in place a yellow warning until the end of the week for the districts of Beja, Évora, Castelo Branco, Guarda, and Portalegre. For Vila Real and Viseu the yellow warning is also active, but only until the end of today.
For today, the IPMA predicts the continuation of hot weather in the interior and a decrease in the maximum temperature on the Central and North coast, except in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, and a small increase in the maximum temperature in the Algarve.
Periods of very cloudy skies are also forecast, gradually decreasing cloudiness from south to north from the beginning of the afternoon.
As for temperatures, the minimum will vary between 17º Celsius (Vila Real, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Viseu and Sines) and 22ºC (Castelo Branco) and the maximum between 23ºC (Viana do Castelo) and 38ºC (Bragança).
