There is place for 10 cats in each of the structures that provide them a clean and safe space, away from street dangers and near the area where these cats used to wander around. The one in the photos is located by Mar-Bel-Sol and the restaurant Vila com Tradição, where Ângela and another lady used to take food and water for them, also providing health care such as sterilisation and vaccines.

There are two other “Vila dos Gatos”, one up the hill and a third one by the Hilton, provided by different sponsors such as ARA – Animal Rescue and Inframoura. Cozy and comfortable, Vila dos Gatos also keeps the seagulls away from the cat’s food and helps in providing a cleaner and safe space for the colonies.

Now that winter is coming, cats in this part of Vilamoura will have a roof above their heads and there are a few blankets that neighbours offered to keep them warm on those chilly nights. Bright colours, a fence and a nice floor make a friendly environment for these street cats depending on the kindness of strangers.

However, Ângela says that all help is needed as the food she and others are bringing is not always enough and she herself sterilised most of the cats with her own money. So, if you go there around 5 pm, you can meet this lovely lady sweeping and cleaning, feeding the villa’s tenants, and maybe you can help the cat’s in needs and, of course, pet them a little.
