Fernando Medina's guarantee was made during a parliamentary hearing at the Budget and Finance Committee (COF) on the State Budget proposal for 2024 (OE2024), when asked about the topic by Chega deputy André Ventura.
“No increase in IMI is foreseen in OE2024, nor any that I can prescribe for the future”, guaranteed the government official.
IMI is levied on the tax value of rural and urban buildings, with revenue falling to the municipalities where they are located.
I don't see how it's any of the government's business. The rate of IMI is fixed by each council, within a band of 0.30-0.45% of the property's assessed tax value, for urban plots. I think what he's referring to is the localisation coefficient which is one of the parameters that determines the tax value of a property. So the article should have been more specific about this, as I saw an article suggesting there were revisions being planned for updating the localisation coefficient.
