The anniversary was celebrated with a ceremony attended by Roberto de Lucena, Secretary of Tourism and Travel of the State of São Paulo, as well as Carlos Antunes, director of TAP for the Americas, according to aviation news portal Newsavia.
Roberto de Lucena highlighted that this route, in addition to its cultural and historical ties, represents “an important tourist market for Brazil”.
“As São Paulo is, in addition to being the largest sending hub, also a recipient of tourists in the country, our objective is to expand the partnership with TAP and increasingly show Europeans the diversity of destinations in São Paulo”, stated the official.
Carlos Antunes highlighted that “TAP and São Paulo have every reason to celebrate together” and that the success of this route justifies that the airline is committed to “working to bring more and more passengers to Guarulhos International Airport (GRU), in São Paulo, the main gateway for foreign tourists visiting Brazil”.
The partnership between TAP and the Secretariat of Tourism and Travel of São Paulo (Setur-SP) was reinforced in September 2023, with the signing of a letter of intent that aims to implement joint measures and actions to generate demand for travel international from Europe.
The route between Lisbon and São Paulo is one that TAP will reinforce next summer, along which the national flag airline hopes to reach a record number of flights between Portugal and Brazil, with 91 air connections per week.
In the case of São Paulo, the number of flights will increase from 21 to 24 weekly connections to Guarulhos Airport, in this case, with departures taking place from Lisbon and also from Porto.
Currently, TAP offers more than 80 weekly flights to 11 state capitals in Brazil.
