Online driving licenses requests

In 2023, the Mobility and Transport Institute (IMT) achieved the highest number of online applications for driving licenses. In total, there were 345,877, some 35,466 more requests than in the previous year.

Available since 2017, requests for revalidation, replacement or duplicate issuance are the most requested through the IMT.

"Since the launch of IMT Online in 2017, a total of 1,376,762 requests for driving licenses have been registered, 23,327 requests for parking cards for people with disabilities restricted in their mobility, 76,794 requests for a second copy of a certificate registration number and also 37,662 requests to change the colour of vehicles, among others", explains the IMT on its official website.

It is good that you can do it online the problem is that it can take up to eight weeks for a straight forward renewal.

I believe this is a joke, there no system in place, or if it is it cannot be called any way. A driving licence in Portugal takes 1 year! Yes 1year, if you want to exchange your driving licence to a Portuguese one get ready. The tax, for a corrupted imt worker is 150 euro to get the licence in 1 week otherwise it would take 1year. There are so many companies that have connections inside IMT and do this for a fee that the normal applications are left behind. Just take a look on Portal da Queixa and see how many people have lost their jobs because they didn't had a Portuguese driving licence, also you are given a paper that you can use only national. Your right of driving outside the country is taken away for 1 year. This is just one of the amazing services the Portuguese government does. Is there actually any service that works? I see people sleeping in front of Segurança Social to get a ticket in line in the morning.

The noun is "licence" whilst the verb is "to license". Do not confuse the two.
