"The changes correspond to an increase in the tariff of around 50% and aim to promote greater turnover in the use of paid parking spaces", explains a press release.

Encouraging the use of free peripheral car parks, as well as public transport, are other reasons given for the increase, which comes into effect from March 1st.

According to the new tariff, in parking spaces in zone A the cost will go from 80 cents per hour, to 1.20 euros, while in zone B, where the hour until now cost 30 cents, will cost twice as much at 60 cents per hour, reaching a maximum value of three euros after five hours of parking.

The tariff for Long-Term Parks maintains a single tariff of 1.50 euros per day, instead of the current daily euro, and the so-called "Notices" increase to the amount of 13.20 euros.

Regarding the new Rossio car park, which opens on Thursday, a special overnight rate has been defined for residents of the surrounding streets, between 8pm and 8am, of one euro per night.

"The work carried out by the CMA technical team focused on increasing the tariff, which had remained constant since 2015, and eight adjustments to the existing zoning, c", explains the press release.

Other measures that will come into force are the elimination of the A1 zone, the growth of the residents' zone and the progressive elimination of long-term parks.
