In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAA) states that payments to farms in mainland territory, made through the Institute of Agriculture and Fisheries Financing (IFAP), covered the cattle sector (16.4 million euros ), sheep or goats (9.4 million euros), pigs of indigenous breeds (300 thousand euros), beekeeping (1.3 million euros) and rainfed autumn/winter pest cereals (1.5 million euros).
He adds, in addition, Financial Support for drought was also paid for farms in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, in amounts of around 500 thousand euros and 2.3 million euros, respectively.
The MAA recalls that Portugal “was one of the Member States that defended the mobilisation of the Agricultural Reserve to compensate the sector for the effects of the drought, with the amount made available using the State Budget being doubled”.
