The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve had recently answered an SOS, from a member of the local community. The back yard was overrun by feral felines. They had grown into a private 14-cat-colony. What? “When we had picked up 14 of them, two females escaped. They’re quick!” Having arranged a return visit, the man of the house asked if one of the females could be left intact and taken to a friend’s house, overrun with mice and rats. “Thinking she would attract male company and keep the rodents down!” And start another colony no doubt. With another call for help? Expensive business. “Zélia made sure all 14 cats were SNiP’d and returned.”

Good. APAA’s Spaying and Neutering Programme has become popular, not only with the local communities but with shelters, and animal charities. Boosting their treasury is one thing, and not the cat colonies is another. After all their motto has always been, and still is, ‘Here to Help’. “We always look into everyone’s request on a case-by-case basis.” Beside the cat-colonies, abandoned dogs are always given vet inspection, SNiP’d and Chipped as necessary. Often lodged into a kennel or shelter whilst being found their forever home. But it still costs a lot of money.” Their fundraising is always planned ahead and local communities are attracted. Help APAA to help your community. “Our ‘Pop-Up’ shops are a way of raising cash and getting members of the community together. Usually at a restaurant with a good menu and easy to find.”
