At the beginning of the year, idealista analysed the 50 most popular municipalities to buy or rent a house in Portugal and concluded that the 10 preferred municipalities are located mainly, on the outskirts of Lisbon.

When buying a house, families are attracted to the municipalities in the Lisbon district and peripheral areas of the capital. Especially because they find house prices that are more compatible with their salaries, more job opportunities, a greater supply of education and health services, as well as more cultural and leisure attractions.
The municipality of Odivelas was the most sought-after of all to buy a house at the end of 2023, followed by Oeiras, Amadora, Lisbon, and Vila Franca de Xira, reveals data from idealista/data. The top 10 most popular municipalities to buy a house are Torres Vedras, Loures, Sintra, Almada, and Santarém.
But which are the favorite parishes to buy a house in this top 10? The parish of Lumiar, in Lisbon, was the most sought-after of all by those interested in purchasing housing. Next up is Alfragide (Amadora) and the Lisbon parishes of Olivais, Ajuda, Santa Clara, and Marvila. Here, house prices start at 374,000 euros (in Alfragide) and can reach around 625,000 euros (Lumiar), in average terms.
