In a statement, the Lisbon City Council said that the capital's convent spaces will be open to the public for three days with the aim of “raising awareness of places of great importance for the history, architecture, and urbanism of Lisbon”.

The 3rd edition of Open Conventos has the theme “Pause and Silence” and is promoted by the municipality, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Quo Vadis - Turismo do Patriarcado and Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The highlight will be the screening of a film and a conversation about "the issue of organizing time and the importance of contemplation and enjoyment”.

The conversation will take place at the Brotéria cultural center, on the 23rd, and will be attended by the writer Ana Margarida Carvalho, the assistant conductor Inês Tavares Lopes, from the Gulbenkian Choir, the priest João Norton and the sister Anatália, from the Monjas de Belém, in moderation by Teresa Nicolau.

The documentary “The Great Silence”, by Philip Groning, will also be shown at the Convent of São Pedro de Alcântara.

“On the 24th and 25th of May, there is a lot to see, discover, and enjoy in the convents that are part of this third edition, with a varied cultural program aimed at the entire population”, highlights the chamber.

Last year, Open Conventos had the participation of more than 5,000 visitors and the involvement of 32 former convents.
