Loulé council has issued a notice warning people to not drink the water in the Montes Novos area as it has been deemed unsafe for drinking.

In a notice on the council website, the authorities state that “elevated levels of chlorates” were found in the water, considered to be by-products of disinfectants used in water treatment.
The water should not be used for drinking or cooling but can be used for washing surfaces and dishes and for flushing toilets.

You never drink tap water in Portugal. ..

Been in Portugal for 10 years,drank the water from day 1,not a problem.
