In a message published on the Presidency's website, the head of state praised the Portuguese player for not giving up on his dreams.
"Dreams, in sport as in life, no matter how difficult they may seem, can become a reality with work, dedication, and commitment, and Neemias Queta is a great example of how a dream that was born in Vale da Amoreira became a reality in top of world sport. Congratulations Neemias for never giving up on your dreams. May your example continue to inspire young Portuguese people!", reads the message from Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Luís Montenegro also highlighted that Neemias Queta is the first Portuguese NBA champion.
"Another historic result for Portuguese sport. The Portuguese spirit is alive and revealing itself every day. Congratulations, Neemias and Boston Celtics", highlighted the head of the Government, in a publication on X.
Neemias Queta became, at the age of 24, NBA champion with the Boston Celtics in his first season with the Massachusetts team and in his third season in the competition, in which he was the first Portuguese basketball player to play when he was chosen in the draft by Sacramento Kings, in 2021.
Neemias Queta only needed three seasons, and one with the Boston Celtics, to win the most desired basketball title at club level, the North American championship, the NBA.
