At the same time, the retailer is completing the expansion of the Colombo (Lisbon) store, which will be ready this week and will have an area covering more than six thousand square meters.
With these openings, the Irish brand estimates the creation of 500 jobs. From Braga to Loulé, Primark currently has ten stores nationwide and employs more than 1,700 employees from more than 11 nationalities, according to a report by ECO.
“In the year that marked 15 years in Portugal, we are excited to share our investment plan and enter four new cities,” said Nelson Ribeiro, head of sales at Primark in Portugal, during a presentation to the press, where he spoke about the investment and expansion to Portugal.
The store in Montijo, with an area of 2,460 square meters, will be opened in Alegro Montijo, by the end of 2024. In Covilhã, where it will have the first store in Portugal in a retail park, with 1,960 square meters, the multinational chose City Center Covilhã. The Viseu store will be located in Palácio do Gelo and will have 1,630 square meters. Finally, in Guimarães, it will have a surface area of 1,860 square meters in Espaço Guimarães. The brand expects this cycle of openings to be completed in the next “two to three years”.
Nelson Ribeiro, head of sales at Primark Portugal, adds that “recruitment will begin in the coming months, and applications for the Montijo store are now open”.
Primark opened the doors of its first store in Portugal 15 years ago, in the UBBO Shopping Center (formerly Dolce Vita Tejo), in Amadora. Currently, there are ten stores spread across the country, representing more than 32,300 thousand square meters of commercial space. Portugal was the fourth country to welcome the Irish retailer, which claims market leadership in Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
