Thousands of people are expected in Praia da Rocha, Portimão, for an event which every summer attracts visitors from all over the world. More than just a festival, Afro Nation transcends borders, uniting the diaspora in a global celebration of dance, food, fashion, music, and enjoyment.

This year, the headliners will be featured alongside popular Congolese singer-songwriter, Fally Ipupa, who is set to bring his irresistible Francophone sounds and undeniable charm to the stacked mainstage bill. Shallipopi, Nigeria’s hottest new star and the voice behind tracks “Elon Musk” and “Cast” ft. Odumodublvck, has also been confirmed, following massive sold-out shows in London earlier in this month.

Joining the Piano People stage, as part of a new partnership with Jägermeister, is DBN Gogo, described as a true powerhouse with hits such as “Funk 55” and “Bells”, Amapiano riser Kmat, ready to show the world her versatility and technical skills on the decks, as well as the enigmatic Skyla Tylaa who returns again after an electrifying set in 2023. With these additions joining all the biggest artists from South Africa’s dance explosion, from Uncle Waffles and Major League DJz to Focalistic and Tyler ICU, Afro Nation Portugal 2024 is gearing up to be another vibrant celebration of diverse talents.

Standing as the only festival of its kind, reliably delivering an unforgettable cultural celebration on the Algarve’s Blue Flag beaches, this experience is consistently touted as not to be missed as thousands flock back year after year.

In 2023, Afro Nation Portugal marked its first sell-out year, as the festival saw over 40,000 attendees travel from 140 countries.

However, the team behind the festival is committed to expanding on what Afro nation has to offer, with new services ranging from tooth gems to braids. The nearby NoSoloÁgua will be hosting the VIP Club Takeovers, starting the party early every day from noon with DJ sets from Lit, Afro Nation vs Everybody, and Girls I Rate, as well as the popular Afro Spa on the beach.

A Movement

Created by Final Version and Afro Nation, “A Movement” is a captivating exploration of the profound impact of Afrobeats, Amapiano, and the global movement surrounding the Afro Nation festival.

Shot during Afro Nation Portugal 2023, the mini-documentary film featuring unreleased performance clips and exclusive interviews delves into the heart of the global phenomenon and answers the questions of what Afrobeats means to the people and why the genre has made such an indelible mark on music, fashion, and culture.

The film also plots the more recent explosion of Amapiano, the African dance music genre bursting out of South Africa. With its distinctive blend of house music and local South African Sounds, Amapiano has held a firm grip over dance floors globally, becoming a symbol of innovation and cultural resurgence.

Shining a spotlight on Afro Nation’s mission and its profound impact on Portugal and the world at large, the documentary vividly portrays the festival’s commitment to creating an inclusive space where African music and culture can thrive. As the film unfolds, it becomes evident that Afro Nation is more than just a festival – it’s a movement that supports and uplifts countless communities and individuals.
