According to a press release from Albufeira council: “The behaviour of foreign tourists in broad daylight last weekend triggered a meeting called by the Municipality on an emergency basis with all security forces and associations in the tourism sector. A meeting with the Minister of Internal Administration and the creation of a committee to draw up a Code of Conduct are the next steps.
“The behaviour of tourists in Albufeira will soon be regulated, and for this purpose, a commission will be created in charge of establishing a Code of Conduct”.
The events that occurred last weekend on Rua da Oura led the Executive to hold an emergency meeting on the 19th and called the GNR, the Port Authority of Portimão, the Algarve Bartenders Association and several associations to the meeting. of the tourism sector, such as AHRESP Albufeira - Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Services of Portugal, APAL - Albufeira Promotion Agency, ACALB - Commercial Association of Albufeira, AHISA - Association of Hotel and Similar Industries of the Algarve and APECATE - Portuguese Business Association of Congresses, Tourist Entertainment and Events. The invitation was intended to raise awareness among businesspeople associated with these structures so that they do not allow the behavioural excesses that have been occurring inside and in the space surrounding their establishments.
Having heard the opinions of everyone present, José Carlos Rolo determined that a Code of Conduct will be created to be applied in the public space of the municipality, and for this purpose, a commission responsible for its preparation must be created, and will soon meet with the Minister of Internal Administration, Margarida Blasco. Another measure will be the beginning of the urban requalification process on Avenida Sá Carneiro.
José Carlos Rolo stated that he “regrets that Albufeira's image is being damaged by incidents such as those that have occurred in the bar areas, when in the rest of the municipality security and tranquillity have been a continuous record, as evidenced by the annual demand for tourists, particularly of families, whether from abroad or Portuguese”.

Visited "the Strip" for the first time in May and I guarantee you that is our LAST trip to Albufeira. The behavior going on - from both customers and some of the bar people - was abhorrent, and it was the middle of the afternoon. Maybe some folks like that stuff, but not us. Sorry Albufeira. Til you clean up your act we're staying away

I am An English person, & am appalled how the town of Albufeira has gone to the dogs. years ago the presence of Police in the old town & strip seemed to control this animal behaviour, of Mainly British tourists. Why are the bars granted licenses to operate untill early morning, whereas years ago ,I always said "this place is not for the Benidorm, Blackpool scrubbers" as Albufeira closes too early for their liking. Anyone found stepping out of line, should have their passport confiscated, & not released untill they pay a €1000 on the spot fine end of. they are a total disgrace to Britain, respect for Nothing. The Portuguese must wonder how we ever became a developed country we once was. Please get back to Benidorm, Blackpool & stop F-------G up Portugal. WE DO NOT WANT YOU.

Another embarrassing issue that gives Brits a bad name abroad. Although the culprits are not always just British. Where were the police? If the bars paid more taxes that could go into the funds of the GNR they could act upon this totally unacceptable behaviour. Cheap booze and sunshine brings out the worst in people wether it be Benidorm, Albufeira or Sunny Beach in Bulgaria.

It is time that Portugal got tough with these entitled clowns, they come over here and think they are immune to the laws because they are British (most likely English) they should be arrested fined deported and banned from the whole of the Schengen area, this would be a true Brexit benefit to us Europeans.

At least it's not the ugly americans, as we have been referred to. I've never heard of this anywhere in the US, even in Vegas... the land of debauchery where everything is legal.
I suppose there are low class Americans that behave like this, but they aren't buying expensive plane tickets to Portugal, or Europe.
I bet 99% of Americans here tend to be civilized... and many of us came here because in many ways, Portugal, and the Portuguese, are more civilzed.
