In a statement, the Navy revealed that the mission, which began on July 5th, ended on Sunday night.

The Russian scientific research vessel was accompanied by NRP Zaire and NRP Setúbal, for a total of more than 45 hours on mission.

During this period, the Maritime Operations Center (COMAR) monitored and coordinated the operation, "maintaining permanent situational awareness of the Russian ship that transited through areas of national jurisdiction and responsibility".

The Navy recalls that, through these monitoring and surveillance actions, it guarantees the defense and security of maritime spaces under national sovereignty or jurisdiction, in the protection of Portugal's interests, and its critical infrastructures and, at the same time, contributes to ensuring compliance with international commitments assumed within the framework of the Atlantic Alliance.
