Compared to the same period last year, the number of fatalities increased (five more), but the number of accidents (1,194 fewer), as well as the number of serious injuries (28 fewer) and minor injuries (464 fewer).
“The 16 fatal victims, 11 males and five females were aged between 18 and 73 years old”, explains the ANSR in a statement.
The accidents with fatalities, recorded during the week in which the joint campaign of the ANSR, the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP) took place, consisted of eight collisions and six crashes and occurred in the districts of Aveiro (2 ), Bragança (2), Coimbra, Guarda, Lisbon, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo (4) and Viseu (2).
In the same period, “5.3 million vehicles were inspected using radar speed control, 5.2 million of which by ANSR’s SINCRO – National Speed Control System”, and 46,200 in person.
“Of the total of 5.4 million vehicles inspected during the campaign, 22.9 thousand infractions were recorded”, according to the statement.
