At maximum risk of fire are the municipalities of Loulé, São Brás Alportel, Tavira (Faro), Marvão, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide, Nisa, Gavião (Portalegre), Vila Velha de Ródão, Fundão, Penamacor, Covilhã, Belmonte, Proença- a-Nova (Castelo Branco), Mação, Sardoal (Santarém) and Sabugal (Guarda).

The IPMA also placed more than 50 municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre, Beja, and Faro at very high risk of fire.

According to IPMA calculations, the fire danger will remain high in some districts at least until Monday.

This risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum and calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

Because of the heat, IPMA issued a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Setúbal, Beja, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre until 6:00 pm on Friday.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.

The IPMA predicts for today on the continent partly cloudy or clear skies, generally weak wind, sometimes moderate on the coast in the afternoon, and a rise in temperature, especially the maximum and in the central and southern regions.

Minimum temperatures will range between 13 degrees Celsius (in Braga and Coimbra) and 22 (in Faro) and maximum temperatures between 23 (in Aveiro) and 40 (in Évora).
