The walking tours, which will take place on 31 July and 14 August at 9.30 am, follow short, round itineraries with the goal of showcasing the Serra da Estrela's diverse terrain.
“The tours are a unique opportunity to explore the natural and cultural wonders of the highest mountain in mainland Portugal”, say the organisers.
The first route is scheduled for July 31, with a distance of five kilometres and an accumulated climb of 200 metres. The journey will begin at the Tower towards the edge of Covão do Ferro, the largest of Serra da Estrela’s cirques of glacial origin. During the walk, participants will have the opportunity to visit more imposing places on the mountain, such as Cântaro Raso, Covão do Boi, Cântaro Magro, and Rua dos Mercadores.
The second tour will occur on August 14, through the Vale do Rossim, in an extended version of the Penhas Douradas. The nine-kilometre walk starts near the Vale do Rossim dam and will take participants past emblematic sites such as Fragão do Corvo, Seixo Baixo, Vale das Éguas and Corgo das Mós, at the headwaters of the River Mondego.
According to the organisation, entries can be made online at visitseia.pt with a limit of 15 participants per route, and a minimum age of 12. The tours are subject to a minimum of six participants.
