The search operations are being carried out by crew members from the Ferragudo Lifeguard Station and members of the Portimão Fire Department, with a team of divers, and on land by members of the Portimão Maritime Police, as well as firefighters, supported by a drone, the National Maritime Authority said in a statement.

The man, aged 29 and of Mozambican nationality, allegedly got into difficulties while stand-up paddle boarding on the Arade River, in the dredged area, south of the Fishing Dock.

“According to what was possible to ascertain, the man disappeared in the river after getting into difficulties while returning from a stand-up paddle boarding activity. His friend who was with him and was wearing a life jacket managed to return to land on his own and raised the alarm,” the note reads.
