As one of the most successful and youngest DJs/producers leading the pop and electronic scene, Martin Garrix shared with The Portugal News his feelings about performing at the Sudoeste Festival in Zambujeira do Mar on the 7 August, where he was back on stage for the 4th time. “It felt amazing to perform at Sudoeste” he expressed, adding that “I always love performing here, it’s so special to be able to return to festivals like this and play there multiple times”.

With 25 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the artist born and raised in The Netherlands made sure to emphasise his love for Portugal and the Portuguese public. “The Portuguese are passionate about music and you can definitely feel that when you’re on stage”, he shared. Numerous magazines have recognised him due to his stream count and acknowledgement from renowned events alone. Martin was ranked number one on DJ Mag's Top 100 for three consecutive years, with a fourth year added in 2022.

"I love the energy over here - it's a beautiful festival and the weather is great as well," said the 27-year-old internationally renowned DJ, who has over ten years of success under his belt remarked, when asked what sets the festival Sudoeste apart from other similar summer festivals. His brand-new live closing song, "Wherever You Are", arrived just in time for summer, and he has several more releases coming up, which hopefully the Portuguese fans will be able to listen live as he made sure to highlight that he would come back to perform at Sudoeste “without a doubt!”.

The Dutch superstar, who saw himself being described as the new face of electronic music at the young age of 17 with the release of “Animals”, which ended up becoming a major worldwide hit, shared that he wished he could have stayed longer in Portugal. As Martin added, “Unfortunately I didn’t have a lot of time to spend here since I flew in pretty late, but I did have a nice dinner with friends”.
