The fire that broke out on Wednesday in the western part of Madeira today has five active fronts in areas of difficult access, in three municipalities, but the flames are burning with low intensity, indicated the president of the Regional Civil Protection Service.

In statements to the Lusa news agency, António Nunes said that the resources are concentrated in the municipalities of Ribeira Brava, where two fronts are active (Furna and Encumeada); Ponta do Sol, also with two fronts (Lombada and Canhas); and Câmara de Lobos, where the fire is burning in an inaccessible area at Pico Furão.
At 09:00, the operation involved a total of 74 firefighters and 21 vehicles.
