The Catholic Archdiocese of Nagasaki has announced plans to restore the north bell of Urakami Cathedral, which was damaged by the atomic bomb dropped on the city.

The archdiocese is supported by Prof. James Nolan Jr., grandson of Dr. James Nolan, who worked on the Manhattan Project. The bell will be installed next year on the bombing’s 80th anniversary.
"The bells will ring out to convey the tragedy of war and to wish for peace", Archbishop Michiaki Nakamura of the Nagasaki Archdiocese said.
